New York (CNN) -- Federal aviation authorities stopped two arriving jetliners at John F. Kennedy International Airport after a telephone threat against them Monday but released them after a search, officials said.

An anonymous caller reported that explosives and a hijacker were aboard the two inbound jets, an American Airlines flight from San Francisco and a Finnair flight from Helsinki, Finland, a law enforcement source said. The jets were steered to an isolated area of the tarmac and met by authorities upon landing, Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Sterling Payne said.

The FBI issued an all-clear after a search. Both pilots told investigators that nothing suspicious had occurred during the flight, the law enforcement source said.
