Army general hit with sex, adultery charges

By Jeff Black, NBC News An Army general based in Fort Bragg, N.C., has been charged with forced sodomy, multiple counts of adultery and inappropriate relationships with female subordinates while serving in Afghanistan, The Associated Press reported Wednesday. Brig. Gen. Jeffrey A. Sinclair, who served as deputy commander of the 82nd Airborne Division headquarters, was sent back to Fort Bragg from Afghanistan several months ago, the Fayetteville Observer, which was first to report the allegations, reported. Sinclair has been in the Army for 27 years, according to the AP, and has been deployed three times to Afghanistan. He also served in Iraq. In addition to the sexual misconduct allegations, Sinclair was charged with possessing alcohol and pornography while deployed, filing fraudulent claims and engaging in conduct unbecoming an officer, the Observer reported. Pentagon calls for steps to prevent sexual assault Sinclair could face a court martial following an Article 32 investigative hearing on the charges. On Tuesday, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta ordered all military services to review their training and response programs for officers and enlisted personnel.
